Parkun 101 - wedding speech
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to run our Saturday parkrun. Not to be entered into lightly, parkrun should be entered into solemnly and with reverence and honour, a proper warmup and half-decent footwear. Into this holy agreement we come together to get healthier and stronger so we may serve others.
If there are any first timers please raise your hand or miss out for you only get one chance to be a first timer.
If there are any visitors please raise your hand now or forever hold your peace.
Running is a sacred union between body and soul. It is the basis of health, happiness and friends, but is also the basis for injuries and disappointments if you don’t listen to your body or your soul. It is never too late to start but it helps if you start young like Imogen and Mackenzie Ryan our latest Club 10 members. Congratulations!
It also helps if you have fun events to go to like Adelaide’s inaugural Hot Lap Fun Run around the 3km Clipsal 500 race track on 28 of Feb or Victor Harbor’s Newland Head to King Head and back on 14 Feb.
We are also gathered here to celebrate Karin and Cormac’s 50th runs.
Karin, you are an adorned multi-sport athlete, hold a PB of 20:59, you are an age category record holder for the Mount Barker and Maribynong parkruns and an inspiration for us and your family.
Do you promise to keep running never in sickness but in health, for better or for worse, for faster or for slower for as long as you shall live? Congratulations.
Cormac, you hold a very respectable PB of 22:27, you got started at parkrun by your auntie, always run with your favourite T-shirt and you and your family just love running and trying out different parkruns. I wished I was as fast as you when I was your age. Do you promise to keep running never in sickness but in health, for better or for worse, for faster or for slower for as long as you shall live? Congratulations.
In the presence of these witnesses I mean volunteers Clarissa, Gary, Naomi and Stacey and with the power vested in me by parkrun and the state of South Australia I now pronounce you ready to run. You may go to the start line.
